In Research,  I tend to focus primarily on making new discoveries for different scientific communities, although Academic Research involves a thorough investigation into what is known about any given topic., not to mention that Research is a part and parcel of academic life. It basically trains students to foster a new and a critical way of thinking. So basically there is a lot of time spent on writing, reading and researching.
